Safety goes to Hollywood
This week I came across an article about the Hollywood, Health and Society Project. This foundation "provides entertainment industry professionals with accurate and timely information for health storylines" (with funding from the Gates!)
I've watched a lot of medical shows over the years! And since reading about this Hollywood health advice group, I was talking with an emergency room doctor who laughingly admitted to me that sometimes he learns things watching ER!
This doctor added that medical story lines in Hollywood, and the media in general, can highlight the need for people to be aware of their own health.
If medical and environmental issues are sexy, why not safety?
Hollywood, Health and Society doesn't limit itself to medical scripts; it also advises on environmental issues for shows, such as "Beyond Erin Brockovich: Threats from our Toxic Environment."
Now, imagine if a similar script advisory service was available for workplace safety! The best and latest information about occupational health and safety would be provided to Hollywood writers for use in sitcoms, dramas, made-for-TV movies, blockbuster films, etc.! (Could we gate the Gates interested in funding?)
THIS would be hitting the mainstream - and would truly propel the workplace safety message into the "new green".
Now, we just need to get a celebrity passionate about our cause - the Angeline Jolie of workplace safety.
