CSI, David Caruso and safety
Okay, I must admit I am one of the millions of people who periodically tune into CSI Miami - for no other reason then to hear Horatio Kane (played by David Caruso) make insanely predictable statements (which also makes watching the show very interactive and therefore educational!).
So for those of you who have more important things to be doing with your lives (or those of you who never procrastinate) here is a short recap of the beginning of the "explosive final episode"(as stated by CTV).
The opening scene has a man falling out of a glass window to his death. Minutes later a new medical examiner is on scene taking a look at the victim's body. As the M.E. looks at the evidence she thinks she hears the victim take a breath of air - she calls for the emergency workers and out of nowhere gun shots fly through the air and instantly kill her. A few scenes later one of the CSIs makes this statement, "I guess you have to remember that you can never be too safe at a crime scene."
As this statement was made I have to admit that I was a bit interested. Because unlike much of the dialogue on CSI Miami this statement was actually thought provoking. While most of us don't work for crime labs where we could get shot looking for evidence - many of us work in surroundings where hazards can become common place and dangerous if we are not vigilant.
Reminding ourselves about the specific safety risks that are inherent in our job and taking daily (or hourly) precautions to make sure that those risks are managed may mean the difference between a safe work environment and an unecessary workplace injury.
So today I guess I just wanted to remind all of us that (before you read this statement - you must picture me tipping my head sideways and putting on my cheesy sunglasses in the hot Miami heat...aka Horatio Kane). "you can never be too safe at your job...you can never be too safe."
