Canadian Election Update: How Does Your Party Plan to Handle Workplace Safety?

We Canadians go to vote in a federal election in just four days... have you given any thought to how the parties plan to address the serious issue of workplace safety? The SafetyXchange online community has written nice tidy summaries of the various political parties' stand on this key issue; check it out for yourself... (caveat: the blogger, Glenn Demby Esq., is an American)

Liberals and NDP platforms: "The NDP’s safety guru, Ontario MP Andrea Horwath, has proposed amending the Ontario OHS laws to require employers to report workplace incidents to a provincial Workplace Disease and Accident Registry." The blogger lumps in the Liberals with NDP, citing their differences in platforms in regards to workplace health and safety (and because he ran out of time to blog on each party before election day).

Conservatives platform on workplace safety: no platform published as of this writing - Oct. 3rd - which was the first day of advance polls for folks who won't be in the country the day of election.

Green Party platform: “Canadians are among the most overworked people in the industrialized world,” declares its platform. The Green Party supports higher wages, more vacation and more aggressive enforcement of labour, employment and OHS laws.

Speaking of green....  please read our statement, Workplace Safety is the "New Green" that compares the swelling grassroots movement for workplace safety to the struggle starting 30 years ago to enforce environmental concerns.
