Feeling a Little Sluggish at your Desk?

It's now November and everyone is beginning to feel a little sluggish. It’s usually around October that we start to let our diets go the way of the avalanche.

No one to blame but our festive Canadian calendar, of course. Starting off with Thanksgiving in early October and candy infested Halloween at the end. This month brings on an onslaught of holiday parties and concerts. And the first of December rings in a strict diet of butter, sugar and dense meats. And these are just some of the holidays that my family celebrates!

Most Canadian families celebrate a collection of holiday festivities from their own culture (I wish there were a way to sample all of these holiday festivities!). Not to say that I don’t partake and enjoy it - but what I wish I could avoid is the continuous lethargy and the ringing of my wise mother’s words (“you are what you eat...”).

I know people who are serious about eating right - these people smuggle dried fruit into the movie theatre as to avoid the temptation of forbidden delicacies. As much as I admire their valiant attempts at staying true to their oral code, I will never achieve their social humility and deny myself indulgences, especially on the rare occasions I actually leave my family room couch for a two-hour stint at the theatre.

What I will condone is the use of these and other serious snacks throughout the course of a work day.  I for one am going to attempt more regular use of whole foods - mixed nuts, raw fruit and veggies, cheeses and yogurt as opposed to traditional snacks such as chips, pop, cookies and pastries.  I’m just not ready to sabotage my social life over it;)

All in an effort to feel good - work better.
