Annual Simulcast

Educators are important participants in the Our Youth At Work Simulcast events, which involve student-executive interaction between hundreds of companies and thousands of students at more than 100 students at 50 cities across Ontario, as was the case in 2008. We are aiming even higher for 2009!

Top representatives of the school administrations across Ontario are key participants in the Simulcast, since its inception in 2005. Gerry Connelly, Director of the Toronto District School Board, is shown here speaking at the 2007 Simulcast.

Universities and Colleges

MySafeWork /Our Youth At Work goes out to speak with students and faculty at universities, colleges, and corporations in addressing students, in particular in the programs of Engineering, Business, MBA, and Health Sciences.

Some of the post-secondary schools we've spoken at include:

Elementary Schools (Grades 6 - 8)

MySafeWork / Our Youth at Work offers a one-hour interactive presentation, titled Teaching Younger Kids to Dream Big and Dream Safe to middle schools (Grades 6 - 8).

We believe that it's never too early to inspire your students to dream big and dream safe when it comes to their career aspirations. And it's never too early to teach them that they have a right to:

  • say 'no' to unsafe work
  • get appropriate job training right away

Some young people start working as early as the elementary/middle school years - such as having a paper route.

High Schools

Speaker Rob Ellis offers a one-hour presentation to schools titled "Knowledge Transfer." He begins the presentation with his own personal story: the death of his son from a workplace accident.

Rob shows his video, about his son David who died in a workplace accident, and talks about the impact of the tragedy on his family, David's school, friends and community.

Why Students Should Meet Safety Champions in Person

How often do students get to meet face-to-face with top executives at major corporations? Not often, and certainly not for an issue as critical as workplace health and safety. That's exactly what the outreach efforts of MySafeWork / Our Youth At Work accomplishes.

It's critical to reach students with the message of workplace safety early because:

A) Most students join the workforce before they finish high school; in fact, 69% of students between the ages of 15 to 19 have part-time jobs during the school year and/or work during their summers.

B) Young people are twice as likely to be injured on the job as adults. This difference can be attributed to several factors, including:
