Annual Simulcast
Educators are important participants in the Our Youth At Work Simulcast events, which involve student-executive interaction between hundreds of companies and thousands of students at more than 100 students at 50 cities across Ontario, as was the case in 2008. We are aiming even higher for 2009!
Top representatives of the school administrations across Ontario are key participants in the Simulcast, since its inception in 2005. Gerry Connelly, Director of the Toronto District School Board, is shown here speaking at the 2007 Simulcast.
The 5th Annual Simulcast Event
Date: Friday, April 17, 2009
Time: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. (EST)
Location: on your school's premises
Cost: None (for schools)
Wanted: More Schools to Participate
Our Youth At Work is seeking more schools to participate in our fourth annual "simulcast" event. Preference is given to high schools that will provide a full assembly for 60 minutes and offer an informal breakfast for coop students and staff to meet the corporate President and CEO and his/her "safety champion" team.
When we started the Simulcast in 2005, the event involved only six schools and six corporate teams. In 2008, more than 100 schools across the province and almost 100 corporate teams were involved.
The Simulcast Presentation is divided into two parts:
- The first half hour consists of a video feed from Rob Ellis telling his story and bringing a hard-hitting safety message.
- The second half hour is devoted to students' questions. They step up to the microphone to direct their queries at the safety champions (corporate executives) standing at the front, ready to take hard questions about health and safety from potential employees.
For most students, the Simulcast is the first time they have had the chance to ineract with a company president face-to-face. A good opportunity to learn about the real world of employment, to "interview" potential employers about their safety best practices.
