High Schools
Speaker Rob Ellis offers a one-hour presentation to schools titled "Knowledge Transfer." He begins the presentation with his own personal story: the death of his son from a workplace accident.
Rob shows his video, about his son David who died in a workplace accident, and talks about the impact of the tragedy on his family, David's school, friends and community.
From there, Rob uses this real-life example to illustrate the tragic consequences of a lack of training and orientation for new employees. He challenges the high school students to stand up at an open mike and ask their toughest safety questions to himself and the corporate executives he has brought along for the presentation.
Using this presentation format, Rob has spoken at high schools across Ontario, including:
- Central Catholic High School in London
- Michipicoten High School in Wawa
- Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School in Peterborough.
High school administrators have raved about the presentation for its impact on the students and educators alike, and the impetus Rob has spurred to affect change in their communities and schools regarding workplace safety.
All the school presentations given by MySafeWork / Our Youth At Work are free of charge to the schools participating.
