Is there a mentoring program at your place of work?

I just got back from a short presentation by Rob at our work-site here at Albian Sands Expansion Site north of Fort McMurray and I was very impressed by his presentation. It has inspired me to check out what is being done in my local area.

The company I work for is a garage with 12 bays and the hoist don't work properly 2 fire extinguishers. WSIB inspected it and the inspector didn't even enter the shop to check safety. These shops in ontario only get checked if an employee dies or is rushed to the Hospital with life threatening injuries when the police and fire are called. But even when the Employer is charged they are free to commit the same violations. So the Victims are the Employees.

It takes some courage to write what you did. I would encourage you to leave the name of the company with MOL.ca or WSIB .com -asking that the company be inspected again with specific reference to the Hoist and fire extinguisher. You won't have to leave your name with MOL or WSIB. I ask you to be a whistleblower because of these two reasons: 1. I lost my son David in a workplace where two of David 's friends both got injured on the same piece of eqipment and nobody reported it or talked about. Nobody wanted to get fired or talk about a bad place of employment. 2. It is the right thing to do-your life will be impacted forever if somebody gets hurt or injured on the hoist that isn't working. Be brave and strong my friend--we are all pulling for you to make the right decision. Let me know how I can help. Rob
