This week the use of hand-held cellphones, Blackberries, other PDAs,
iPods and other MP3 players, and handheld GPS systems while driving became illegal in Ontario, where I live and work. Now only
hands-free devices can be used in the new "distracted driving" law.

As I sit on my couch and watch the news I can't believe what I am hearing about a
tractor trailer losing its load and killing a 53-year-old man on a Toronto highway. When we think about workplace safety we often think about on site jobs but what we fail to recognize is that a
large percentage of injuries are the result of traffic accidents.

I'm supposed to be a wreck teaching my teenage daughter to drive, right? But I'm not ... instead I feel humbled and enlightened by the whole experience. Let me explain: I've long felt I am a good driver, abiding by the rules of the road (and only occasionally getting speeding tickets). But my 16-year-old is showing me the light...
